It took me a very long time to start appreciating my curls. Thanks to Lorraine Massey and her movement to get curly hair the attention and love it deserves, I understood the importance of a curly hair routine. Textured hair is naturally dry and needs a lot of moisture. Subjecting curls to sulfates and other harsh chemicals found in mainstream hair care products is as bad as washing them with detergent powder.
Thankfully there are specialized products for Indian curly hair which help maintain textured mane by keeping it hydrated and frizz-free.
Curlvana has come up with a host of CG-approved products in India. They have a shampoo, conditioner, leave-in cream, hair gel, and hair mask. The products are designed for wavy, curly, and coiled hair, across different porosity levels. Together the whole range is called the Ultimate curl kit, and it is priced at Rs Rs 3395. I am particularly impressed by the whole brand, its ethos, and its products in general. The biggest problem with curly hair is frizz. As a solution to that, Curlvana has removed glycerine from its formulation and has become India’s first glycerine-free hair range. “Glycerin tends to behave differently in conditions of different humidity. It can over-absorb moisture and disrupt the curl pattern, causing frizz. Curlvana uses no Glycerin and provides sustained hydration.”
I have been using the entire range for over a month now, and have formed my thought about this new Indian Curly Hair Routine. Please note, that I have used the Curlvana products in the peak of summer, and have a fairly decent idea of whether or not this range helps in eliminating frizzy hair.
My Indian Curly hair Routine with Curlvana
I wash my hair twice a week and follow it up with conditioner, leave-in cream, and gel (if required). I use the hair mask once when I have the time to indulge in a pamper routine. Before this, I was using a drugstore shampoo and conditioner which had damaged my hair so much so, that it started falling. To curtail that I started using CG-approved products in India, and I can see some improvement. Curlvana products have helped in rejuvenating my curls, but I have a long way to go before my hair gets back to its optimum health. I have also been using hair supplements to help with hair growth and thickness.
Curlvana Ultimate Kit Review
Curlvana’s Ultimate Kit is amazing for people like me who don’t have the time to sit and research different CG-friendly products. It has all the products to form a curly hair routine for Indian hair and I just picked them without batting an eyelid. So here is my take on the products:
Curlvana Fortify Curl Cleanse: As the name suggests, it is a shampoo that strengthens curly hair. This probably is my least favorite product from the line because it doesn’t do much to my curls. Yes, I have noticed that it doesn’t overly dry my hair, but that’s about it. I always use a conditioner after shampooing, so I don’t know how much softness or hydration the shampoo adds by itself. Overall, I’d say it is a decent shampoo, nothing too good or too bad about it.
Curlvana Curl Shine Gentle Conditioner: Truth be told, I like this conditioner. I have fine curls and it doesn’t weigh my hair down. It has good slip and helps to hydrate the curls after a good washing session. On days when my curls are extra dry and a little dirty, I use this conditioner as a co-wash as well and it works fine. The formula is easy to rinse off as it isn’t very heavy.
Curlvana Curl Style Leave-In Cream: A leave-in cream is a must for my curls because they can turn very frizzy very soon even after conditioning. I use the bowl method after using the leave-in cream to evenly distribute the product.
For the sake of experiment, I used too much of the product the first time, and it kind of weighed my hair down. The 2nd time I consciously applied lesser products and boy were my curls in full bloom. I was gushing over how beautiful my curls looked, and my mom complimented me on my hair. I love this product and will repurchase it.
Curlvana Curl Defining Styling Gel: Adding gel to curly hair is optional, but if you want longer hold with added shine and definition, then you must use it. I gel my hair only when I have a long day ahead of me, and I want my curls to look intact the entire time. This gel doesn’t have that crunch element which I highly appreciate, and it holds the curl pattern on 2nd and even 3rd-day hair if you take care of your hair while sleeping.
Curlvana Deep Nourish Hair Mask: This has to be the finest product across the lineup because it nourishes my hair like a pro! My curls feel amazing, every time I use this mask, and the pattern just amplifies. Mind you, using the mask back-to-back might weigh your hair down, so keep its usage limited to once a week. Those with dry, coarse curls will love this product.
Do I recommend Curlvana products?
If you have curly or wavy hair and want a good hair care brand for Indian curly hair, then Curlvana will be a good choice. The pricing of the range is pretty standard, and given the quantity, each product should last you for about 2 months at least (depending on your hair length and frequency of use). I don’t think I will be going back to the products that I was previously using and will stick to Curlvana’s regime for curly hair.
